KRISTURAJA PROVINCE

The good Lord blessed the congregation of the Daughters of Mary to extend its missionary activities outside the Malankara Arch Diocese of Trivandrum and the states of Kerala and Tamil Nadu to Punjab, the land of five rivers for the first time in the year 1975.

              In 1974, the then Mother General Mother Monica with the intension of extending our missionary activities in Punjab, met the Superior General of the Congregation of St.Therese, Very. Rev. Fr. Seraphin CST. As a result Rev. Fr Seraphin CST obtains permission from His Excellency Rt. Rev Benedict Mar Gregorios, the Metropolitan Archbishop of  Trivandrum. Rev. Fr. Dominik Kokkatt CST, the then mission superior of Punjab mission obtained permission from the bishop of Jalandhar Rt. Rev. Dr. Symphorian Keeprath of happy memory to begin the first house at Kotly Road Muktsar (where they were serving) on 16th March 1975.

             The first members were Sr. Judit DM, Sr. Gladys DM and Sr. Geetha DM. Sr. Theodocia DM joined them after one month. They were accompanied by Rev. Sr.Virgin DM, the then vice General and Rev. Sr. Felicita D.M. After that we extended our apostolate to Kapurthala on 25th March 1997, 1983 in Malout, 1986 in NaiAbadi- Amritsar, 1987 in Garshankar with OCD Fathers, 1991 in Ludhiana, 1992 in Samarala, 1994 in Billawar-Jammu,  1995 in Mayur Vihar-Delhi, 1996 in Vijayapur-Jammu, 1997 in Ferozpur Road Muktsar. After that, we also opened convents in the following places namely, Ramkot Jammu, Prarthana Bhavan and one convent each in the diocese of Meerut in UP, diocese of Dibrugarh in Assam and in the diocese of Gurgoan in Orissa.

 Through education, health care and direct evangelization and social work we reached the good news of Jesus to the spiritually poor people who have not known about the merciful Jesus. As the missionary activities were flourishing in the land, co-ordinators were appointed from 1985 by the superior General from time to time. The mission superiors were Sr. Rose Mary DM from 1985 to 1991. Sr.Roseline DM from 1991 to 1994 and Sr. Virgin from 1994 to 1998. When the congregation was divided into two province in 1987, the Punjab mission was entrusted to the care of St. Joseph’s Province, Marthandom.

           The early sisters have shown great courage and bravery to the people who have followed them with prophetic zeal and dedication. Accordingly the Punjab mission which had been growing steadily and steadfastly and increasing the members. As a result during the general synaxis held in 1996, a decision was taken to declare Punjab a region and Rev. Sr. Virgin DM was appointed as the first Regional Superior in the year 2000 during the General Synaxis it was decided to declare Punjab as a Vice-Province by then Superior General Rev. Mother Felix DM as it had sufficient member of houses and members. Rev. Sr. Theodocia DM was appointed as the Provincial of the Punjab Vice-Province and it has 14 convents 70 finally professed sisters and 21 junior sisters.

           In 2002 October 19th Punjab vice province was declared as a province and named it as Khrisuraja Province in the province of the following dignitaries,

Rev. Mother Felix DM superior General

Provincial Superior Rev. Mother Leo DM, Mother Vijya DM, Regional Superior of Chanda Rev. Sr. Felicta DM, CRT members and a good number of Priests and all the sisters of the Punjab vice province.

The first provincial synaxis was held in 2003 under the chairmanship of Rev.Mother Felix the then Mother General. Rev. Mother Immaculate DM was selected as the first provincial superior. Today the province is spread into 10 Diocese, Jalandhar, Jammu and Srinagar, Meerut, Gurgoan, Dibrugarh, Muvattupuzha, Trissur, Germany and America.

Rev. Mother Flowerlet DM, Sr. Ida Paul DM, Sr. Sevana DM, Sr. Rose-John DM, Sr. Amal George DM are the councillors, Sr. Therese John DM treasurer and Sr. Joepaul DM is the secretary.

All the sisters are working tirelessly in all the missions with the same zeal of the founders holding the charism of the congregation to spread the good news of the merciful Jesus to all corners. May  Christ the King, the Patron of our Province our model and guide.

Congregation of the Daughters of Mary (DM) is a missionary congregation of Pontifical Right according to canon law CEO can.505(2).
